IPL 2020 Match 46: KXIP vs KKR Score, Highlights, Commentary and Status

Kings XI Punjab beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 wickets: A very convincing win for Punjab to make it 5 in 5! To be honest this total was always under par and it proved to be at least 30 runs short from being a competitive total. Rahul and Mandeep started things off slowly but that was fine when you are chasing 150. Rahul departed but then Gayle walked out and took the game by its scruff. He attacked the spinners who were managing to keep it tight till then and his innings not only released the pressure but got Mandeep going too. In the end, the two added a 100-run stand with both scoring half tons. Gayle did fall towards the end but Mandeep and Pooran ensured there were no more wickets to fall and took their side over the line.

Kolkata Knight Riders (149/9)

Shubman Gill (57/45): Mohammed Shami to Shubman Gill, OUT! CAUGHT! Gill holes out! Shami gets his third of the night. A low full toss on middle and leg, Gill looks to flick it over the deep mid-wicket fence but it goes straight to the fielder there. Pooran is the man and he makes no mistake. A fine knock from Gill comes to an end.

Nitish Rana (0/1): Glenn Maxwell to Nitish Rana, OUT! TAKEN! Rana, the man for Kolkata in the last game, has gone for a golden duck. Maxwell has struck in the first over. It is not such a great delivery. It is flatter and down the leg side. Rana looks to sweep but there is a little extra bounce. It goes off the top edge and straight into the hands of the fielder at short fine leg. Gayle makes no mistake. Perfect start for Punjab.

Rahul Tripathi (7/4): Mohammed Shami to Rahul Tripathi, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Shami now has one and Kolkata are in deep trouble here. This is a superb delivery. Perfect Test match length. It is on off and shapes away. Tripathi looks to defend but the ball kisses the outside edge and goes to the keeper. Rahul makes no mistake. Punjab are elated.

Dinesh Karthik (0/2): Mohammed Shami to Dinesh Karthik, OUT! There is a spike as the ball passes the bat and Karthik is a goner! Yes, he did hit the pad too at the same time but there was no conclusive evidence to actually overturn the deicision. Shami has another one and Kolkata are staring down the barrel. This is top class stuff from Shami. He lands it on off and then gets it to move away nicely. Karthik lunges forward to defend but the ball kisses the outside edge and goes into the hands of the keeper. An appeal and up goes the finger. Karthik reviews immediately indicating he has hit his pad. He does hit the pad but he does it when the ball goes close past the bat. The on-field call remains and Karthik takes a review along with him.

Eoin Morgan (40/25): Ravi Bishnoi to Eoin Morgan, OUT! TAKEN! The ploy to change from Ashwin to Bishnoi has worked! A much-needed wicket as Morgan and Gill were taking the game away from Punjab. This though is nicely struck by Morgan. He brings out the sweep and hits this on leg side nicely towards deep square leg. He though hits it flat. Murgan moves to his right and takes it nicely. A good innings from Morgan but he needed to go on. There is not a lot of batting to come now.

Sunil Narine (6/4): Chris Jordan to Sunil Narine, OUT! TIMBER! Excellent bowling from Jordan. He kept banging the ball short to Narine and this time he doesn’t do that. Goes for a fullish ball outside off, Narine throws the bat at it but ends up dragging the ball on his stumps via a thick inside edge. Narine can’t do much with the bat in this game.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti (6/13): Murugan Ashwin to Kamlesh Nagarkoti, OUT! TIMBER! Murugan gets his man! Nagarkoti was really struggling against Ashwin and he falls to him. It is the googly. It lands outside off and then turns back in. Nagarkoti looks to play a drive through covers but leaves a big gap between bat and pad. The ball sneaks through and hits the stumps. This wicket though could well prove as a blessing in disguise for Kolkata as Nagarkoti was really wasting a lot of balls.

Pat Cummins (1/8): Ravi Bishnoi to Pat Cummins, OUT! LBW! Bishnoi gets his man. This looked to be going down but Cummins has to go because he cannot review it, because Karthik used it earlier. Another wrong ‘un from Bishnoi. Cummins fails to read it again. He goes and looks to flick but misses as the ball turns in. He is hit on the pad and they all appeal. The finger goes up. Cummins thinks for the review but he doesn’t have that option. They don’t have the review left. And, replays roll in and it shows that the ball is going to miss the leg pole.

Varun Chakravarthy (2/4): Chris Jordan to Varun Chakravarthy, OUT! TIMBER! Too full and straight. Chakravarthy moves inside the crease and tries to scoop it over the keeper but misses. The ball though hits the target and the zing bails light up. Jordan gets his second of the night.

Lockie Ferguson* (24/13) and Prasidh Krishna* (0/1): Chris Jordan to Prasidh Krishna, DOT! Superb last ball and last over. Very full and following the batsman. Prasidh looks to slog it away on the leg side but misses. KOLKATA FINISH WITH 149/9!

Kings XI Punjab (150/2)

KL Rahul (28/25): Varun Chakravarthy to KL Rahul, OUT! LBW! Varun strikes and gets the dangerous Rahul out of the way. The slider from Varun, it pitches and turns in sharply. Rahul looks to flick but misses to get hit on the pad. An appeal and the finger goes up. Rahul is not sure about the DRS so he gets to his partner at the non-striker’s end. A little chat and he decides not to take it. Looked it might miss the leg pole. Replays roll in and it shows that it would’ve clipped the leg stump. So, even if Rahul had gone for the review, he would’ve had to go.

Chris Gayle (51/29): Lockie Ferguson to Chris Gayle, OUT! TAKEN! Gayle goes but he has done his job. A slower bouncer from Ferguson, Gayle first wants to leave it alone but at the last moment tries to run it down to third man. He knows the fielder is inside the ring. However, the ball hits the upper part of the bat and lobs towards short third man. Krishna does well to move forward and take the catch.

Mandeep Singh* (66/56) and Nicholas Pooran* (2/3): Lockie Ferguson to Nicholas Pooran, Here’s the winning run! Shortish and around middle, Pooran hops and drops it towards the leg side and takes a single. PUNJAB WIN BY 8 WICKETS!
