IPL 2020 Match 42: DC vs KKR Score, Highlights, Commentary and Status

DC-vs-KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Capitals by 59 runs: A very comprehensive win for Kolkata! How vital could this performance be! It was a game they needed to win and they have done it in some style. First they put up a massive total courtesy Narine and Rana after reeling at 42 for 3. They then continued the momentum with the ball as Cummins got the Delhi openers early. Iyer and Pant then looked to re-build but the pace they were batting at was not helping their cause. Finally when they needed to explode, Pant, Hetmyer and Iyer all fell in quick succession. It was then an impossible task for the Delhi side and they fell well short.

Kolkata Knight Riders (194/6)

Shubman Gill (9/8): Anrich Nortje to Shubman Gill, OUT! CAUGHT! Gill walks back and it is Nortje who strikes. Just the start that Delhi needed and this is what Kolkata wanted to avoid, an early wicket. Gill was looking good in the first over but he walks back now. This is bowled on a good length outside off, Gill slashes at this towards point and Axar Patel does well to get low and catch this one. A good start but nothing after that by Gill.

Nitish Rana (81/53): Marcus Stoinis to Nitish Rana, OUT! CAUGHT! Rana falls right at the end but Rana will not be disappointed as he has done his job! Short length ball around off, Rana looks for the pull but does not time it well and it balloons over the square leg region and Deshpande does well to get under this and take this one.

Rahul Tripathi (13/12): Anrich Nortje to Rahul Tripathi, OUT! TIMBER! Destroyed the castle there, Nortje! What an amazing comeback after being sent to the boundary ropes early in the over. Nortje scalps his second wicket of the game and he is looking in top form. Rahul Tripathi just like Gill, was looking good but he cannot continue his exploits. On a fuller length around middle, Tripathi makes some room and looks to work this to the off side but he misses this one completely and the balls goes onto shatter the stumps behind him. Delhi have been good with the ball so far.

Dinesh Karthik (3/6): Kagiso Rabada to Dinesh Karthik, OUT! EDGED AND CAUGHT! Dinesh Karthik’s struggles with the bat continue in this year’s tournament. Brilliant from Rabada and not so much from Karthik. It is Delhi’s spearhead who has struck. Another batter of Kolkata walks back to the hut. On a good length around off, Karthik wants to work this to the leg side but the ball kisses his outside edge and goes into the safe hands of Rishabh Pant behind him.

Sunil Narine (64/32): Kagiso Rabada to Sunil Narine, OUT! TAKEN! Narine holes out and Rabada gets his second! Excellent bowling. He bangs it short and forces Narine to hit towards the longer side. Narine pulls but it goes straight down the throat of the fielder at deep square leg. Rahane makes no mistake. Narine though has done his job. End of a magical partnership. This will only get out Morgan so Kolkata won’t mind the wicket.

Eoin Morgan (17/9): Marcus Stoinis to Eoin Morgan, OUT! CAUGHT! Morgan is out right at the last ball of the innings! He looks for the big one as he wanted Kolkata to cross the 200-run mark but Kolkata end with 6 runs short. This is a short length ball around off, Morgan looks for the pull but it goes off the top edge towards the short fine leg region and Rabada runs backwards and takes a good running catch. KOLKATA END WITH 194/6 ON THE BOARD!

Pat Cummins* (0/0): Marcus Stoinis to Eoin Morgan, OUT!

Delhi Capitals (135/9)

Ajinkya Rahane (0/1): Pat Cummins to Ajinkya Rahane, OUT! LBW! It is the first ball of the innings and Rahane is a goner right on the first ball! Really disappointing! Cummins strikes with the ball. He has not been on the best form in this year’s tournament but he has removed Rahane right at the start of his bowling. Cummins bowls a good length ball around off, it nips in a little bit, Rahane looks to work at this but he misses it completely and it hits him plumb on the pads. There is an appeal and the umpire obliges and raises his finger. Rahane shakes his head and walks back. What a start this is by Kolkata.

Shikhar Dhawan (6/6): Pat Cummins to Shikhar Dhawan, OUT! TIMBER! Cummins knocks him over! Delhi are falling apart! It is man in form, Dhawan who walks back now. What a start by Kolkata. His angle to bowl this delivery worked out for him and gets him another wicket. On a good length around off, Dhawan looks to drive this one but misses it completely and it goes onto shatter the off stump. Jubilation for Kolkata. Disappointment for Dhawan and Delhi.

Shreyas Iyer (47/38): Varun Chakravarthy to Shreyas Iyer, OUT! Two in two for Varun and this is probably the game for Kolkata. The Delhi skipper is out of here. This is fuller and around off, Shreyas looks to go over long on. Tries doing what Hetmyer did but he too holes out to the fielder there. Nagarkoti is the one under it this time.

Rishabh Pant (27/33): Varun Chakravarthy to Rishabh Pant, OUT! TAKEN! Pant’s struggle ends! This could well prove to be a blessing in disguise for his side as he was not able to score freely. He brings out the slog sweep. It goes off the top edge and it is towards the longer part of the ground. Deep square leg, Gill, settles under it and takes it.

Shimron Hetmyer (10/5): Varun Chakravarthy to Shimron Hetmyer, OUT! Hetmyer holes out! Tripathi makes no mistake! Another wicket for Varun. It is fuller and around off, Shimron swings. He looks to go over long on but there is no timing on it. He holes out to the fielder there. Hetmyer had to go for it but he does not connect.

Marcus Stoinis (6/6): Varun Chakravarthy to Marcus Stoinis, OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust and this should be the game for Kolkata! He had to go for the big one as the run rate was running away from them. There was no timing on this one. Loopy ball around off, Stoinis looked to go big down the ground but he did not time this one well and it balloons over towards the long off region and Tripathi runs in and he is safe as house. Good breakthrough for Kolkata. They should see the game out now.

Axar Patel (9/7): Varun Chakravarthy to Axar Patel, OUT! TIMBER! That’s the fifth wicket for Chakravarthy! What an evening he has had so far! He has been brilliant with the ball and he has changed the game around for Kolkata. Best bowling figures so far in this year’s tournament. Flatter around middle, Axar makes some room and looks to go big but he misses it altogether and the ball goes onto disturb the stumps.

Kagiso Rabada (9/10): Pat Cummins to Kagiso Rabada, OUT! CAUGHT! Cummins gets his third wicket! Full delivery on middle, Rabada lofts it over mid on but does not get the distance on it. It goes towards long on where Tripathi takes a good catch.

Tushar Deshpande (1/3): Lockie Ferguson to Tushar Deshpande, OUT! That was nailed but towards long on. Deshpande will feel slightly unlucky as he had got it right off the middle. On middle, Tushar hits it hard but he does not get the desired elevation. He holes out to the fielder at long on. Morgan takes it by moving to his left.

Ravichandran Ashwin* (14/13) and Anrich Nortje* (0/0): Lockie Ferguson to Ravichandran Ashwin, A dot to end the game! Shorter and outside off, Ashwin looks to cut but it goes off the underedge towards short third man. KOLKATA WIN BY 59 RUNS!
